DV6 Channel 2 Adjustment Guide for Seatbelt Detection

A guide to adjusting the channel 2 camera on the DV6 to get the best performance when using the DMS Seatbelt Detection event.

The Seatbelt Detection DMS event for the DV6 allows the camera to monitor if the driver is wearing a seatbelt while the vehicle is in motion using AI machine vision detection. The camera does this by monitoring the upper shoulder and torso area of the driver when in view of the camera to determine if a seatbelt is being worn or not.

To get the best performance from the camera for seatbelt detection, the camera must have an optimal view of both the driver's face and shoulders area. If the camera is positioned poorly, this could cause the camera to miss the seatbelt being worn and generate false positives or not generate any events when it should. The sections below detail how to determine if your camera is adjusted properly and how to make the proper adjustments if required.

Proper Channel 2 Position for Seatbelt Detection

How should the driver be positioned in the video?

The driver should be positioned towards the right-side of the video with their face and shoulders vertically-centered in frame as close as possible.

As depicted in the image above, you can imagine a box about the width of the driver's shoulders and height that begins at the top of the driver's head and ends about mid-shoulder. The driver's face should be vertically centered and towards the top half of this box (green area) for best performance, but the most important for seatbelt detection is that the driver's shoulders are within this box.

How do I know if it is positioned correctly?

Each vehicle can be different in the way a driver is positioned in the cab, so its important to establish a baseline for a vehicle and then when the camera is in the best position, apply that same adjustment to all other vehicles of that same type.

A suggested method for determining if the camera is positioned properly for seatbelt detection is to enable the DMS Seatbelt Detection event on one camera to use as a baseline for your adjustments. After the update is applied, position the driver's seat so that it is in a normal driving position and have a person sit in the driver's seat as they would when driving the vehicle. Open the live stream for that camera and while using the person in the driver's seat as reference, make adjustments until the driver is correctly positioned.

A camera can be live streamed by visiting fleet.roscolive.com through your mobile browser or using the Rosco Installer app's Calibration feature to connect and live stream the camera directly to your mobile device.
