How Do I Get Video For My Exceptions?

This guide will show you how to setup web-request notifications for your MyGeotab Rules to get video from your RoscoLive camera for Exceptions

The RoscoLive add-in for MyGeotab works by receiving web request notifications from MyGeotab for Exceptions and uploading the corresponding video for those Exceptions to the add-in.

In order to begin receiving videos for Exceptions generated by your GO devices, you must first apply the RoscoLive web request notification to the Rules you wish to receive video for.

Adding Web Request Notifications To Rules

In your MyGeotab database, navigate to the Rules page. To the right of each Rule you will notice a toggle button with a question-mark and an mail envelope icon.

Click the mail envelope icon to open the Notification Recipients menu for that Rule.

Next, click on the More... drop-down button to see additional options. Click the option for Web Request in the drop-down menu.

A section called Web request will appear in the NOTIFICATION RECIPIENTS area. Click in the text box to reveal a drop-down menu and you will see the following options for RoscoLive:

  • Auto-upload snapshot and video clip to RoscoLive - This option will upload both a snapshot and video of the Exception to RoscoLive.
  • Auto-upload snapshot to RoscoLive - This option will only upload the snapshots of the Exception to RoscoLive.
  • Auto-upload video to RoscoLive - This option will only upload the video of the Exception to RoscoLive.

For Rules that have the tendency to trigger frequently, we recommend selecting to only upload the snapshot of the Exception as frequent video uploads can cause excessive data usage for the camera.

Select one of the options by clicking on it from the list, then click Add to add this web request notification to the Rule. You will now see that web request notification appear in the NOTIFICATION RECIPIENTS section for that Rule.

Great! Now every time this Rule generates an Exception, you can expect a snapshot, video, or both to be uploaded to RoscoLive for you to view. To remove a notification from a Rule, simply click the X icon next to the name.

FAQ

Why am I not seeing video uploaded for my Exceptions?

  • Check and ensure the web request notification is applied to that Rule.
  • Check that the camera is paired to a GO device.
  • Check that the camera is paired to the correct GO device.
  • Check that the camera is functioning properly by making a Custom Video request for a time you know the vehicle was in operation. If a video uploads then the camera is functioning properly and recording video.
  • Check that the Rule is not triggering on or shortly after vehicle ignition. For example, if an Exception is generated right as the vehicle starts up the camera is most likely still booting up and therefore not able to record at the time the Exception occurred. For exceptions of this nature, we recommend creating a custom Rule and adding a 3 - 5 second trigger delay to give the camera enough time to begin recording and capture the video.
