Pre-Installation Checklist
|
Before starting, use the following list to make sure you have all the tools for the job!
|
Installation Steps |
Step 1. Mounting Location
Camera should be mounted as close to the center of the windshield as possible. If the windshield has a center divider, mount the camera as closely to the driver's side as possible without obstructing the view of the driver. (Fig. B)
Fig. A
Step 2. Prep Windshield for Mounting
Fig B.
- Keep the camera lens within 8.5" below the tips of the windshield blades.
- The camera lens MUST be within the wiper pattern to ensure proper visibility.
- Clean mounting area with alcohol wipe. (Fig. C)
Fig. C - Coat the mounting area with the primer pen and let dry.
- Proceed with the install while letting the primer cure for 5 minutes. (Fig. D)
Fig. D
It is important to let the primer properly cure for 5 minutes before mounting the camera. Failure to do so will result in an incomplete bond with the adhesive pad which will lead to the camera falling off the windshield during operation.
Windshield temperature needs to be at least above 50ºF (10ºC) for proper curing and adhesion. It is recommended to apply a heat gun to the mounting area or turn on the vehicle's defrost prior to applying primer to ensure proper glass temperature.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The mounting of the DV6 camera in locations other than those specified in this document may lead to improper device functionality, including, but not limited to, the malfunctioning of ADAS and DMS features. An example of an improper mounting location is provided below.
Mounting the camera in this location may result in inaccurate calibration and potentially lead to missed or false alerts, as the driver may fall outside the detection range of the DMS sensors.
Step 3. Constant & Ignition Power Connection
Using a voltmeter, test the selected power source to verify constant voltage/power.
Step 4. Running Power Harness
The harness required depends on the type of installation being performed. The following section details the steps required for each harness type. Find the type of harness being used in the section below and follow those steps. Power harnesses are purchased separately from the base DV6 package.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Please be aware that CAN connected harnesses DV665 and DV672 offer significant advantages, including easier installation, precise vehicle speed for ADAS and DMS safety features, as well as enhanced capabilities such as harsh braking and acceleration alerts for end users. Non-CAN harness DV673 (hard wire) limits ADAS features since GPS calculated speed (default when not connected to CAN) is unreliable.
Be sure to select the correct harness type and CAN type in the installer app during installation. This will ensure the appropriate CAN features are enabled on the RoscoLive profiles once installation is complete.
DV673 (Hard Wiring)
When making connections, the Poke & Wrap method, or Military Splice is the most efficient way to connect wires to factory wiring and is a Rosco standard for all installations. Be sure to insert (Separate) the wire before twisting it. This will avoid any intermittent power issues due to wires slipping off a connection. A zip tie is secured to the two wires after it is taped up to prevent a disconnection if the wires are pulled. Place your zip tie under the connection (blue arrow).
Wire Grounding:
An installation with a loose ground connection or not screwed directly on a metal surface may cause an intermittent fault. Vehicles with a loose ground can lose connection if the vehicle’s driving on rough roads such as potholes or speed bumps. A loose connection will cause the recorder to turn off and will not record. If grounding on a metal painted surface, be sure to scrape away any paint to ensure the best possible metal to metal connection.

Approved Methods of Connecting Power
Locate one of the following power sources in the vehicle:
Distribution fuse block – Found in most Type A school buses | ![]() |
Ignition cylinder with spade connection – Found in most Freightliner & Peterbilt trucks |

Ring terminal battery adapters |

Spare Aux wires – Most international trucks have constant & ignition wires available from the factory for added electronics. Butt connectors can be used to crimp your connection securely |
|
Bullet Connector – Most Hino trucks have spare power wires with a factory bullet connector attached. Crimp the included male bullet connector to the DV6 power wire to make a secure connection |

Alternative Hard Wire Connections:
- Find the ignition (IGN) and power (BATT) wires, install the provided TTAP connectors (Red: 22-18 AWG, Blue: 16-14 AWG, Yellow: 12 AWG) onto wires with a pair of pliers.

-
Connect the spade connectors of wires to TTAPs. (Fig. K)

-
For ground wire (GND) wire installation with ring terminal, find an available metal surface and fasten the ground wire onto the surface using the provided self-tapping screw. (Fig. L)

DV665 (OBD-II)
-
Find and remove the vehicle's female OBD-II connector from vehicle location.
-
Plug DV665 OBD-II male connector into the vehicle's female connector. (Fig. M)
Fig. M -
Install OBD-II female connector from DV665 into the original location of the vehicle female connector. (Fig. N)

- Find the ignition (IGN) wires, install the provided TTAP connectors (Red: 22-18 AWG, Blue: 16-14 AWG, Yellow: 12 AWG) onto wires with a pair of pliers. (Fig. J & Fig. K)
DV672 (J1939)
- Find and remove the vehicle's male J1939 connector from its location.
- Plug DV672 female J1939 connector into the vehicle's male connector. (Fig. O)
- Install DV672 male J1939 connector into the original location of the vehicle's male connector. (Fig. P)

- Find the ignition (IGN) wires, install the provided TTAP connectors (Red: 22-18 AWG, Blue: 16-14 AWG, Yellow: 12 AWG) onto wires with a pair of pliers. (Fig. J & Fig. K)
Please note that one of the key benefits of using the DV665 and DV672 harnesses is simplified installation, along with the added functionality of harsh braking and harsh acceleration alerts for the end user.

Side Note: Interior Camera Calibration Requirement
In certain instances, customers may request that the interior camera be deactivated and physically covered using the CAP1259 orange privacy cap. Even in these cases, the installer is still required to calibrate the interior lens during the initial installation process.
