Pre-Installation Checklist

Before starting, use the following list to make sure you have all the tools for the job!

  • Does the DV6 kit have all of the following?
  • Power harness
  • Camera side cover (DV603)
  • T20 security torx wrench
  • T8/T5 security torx wrench
  • Alcohol wipe
  • 3M® primer pen
  • 2x 156mm & 2x 242mm cable ties
  • Is the windshield glass temperature above 50º F?
    • Installers and Partner users are required to enter this key before continuing with installations, however this step is not required for Fleet Manager users.

Installation Steps

After ensuring you have everything you need, you're now ready to start the installation! Below is a video that contains the instructions you can watch as well as step-by-step instructions written out in the following sections.

Step 1. Mounting Location

Camera should be mounted as close to the center of the windshield as possible. If the windshield has a center divider, mount the camera as closely to the driver's side as possible without obstructing the view of the driver. (Fig. B)

Step 2. Prep Windshield for Mounting

  • Keep the camera lens within 8.5" below the tips of the windshield blades.
  • The camera lens MUST be within the wiper pattern to ensure proper visibility.
  1. Clean mounting area with alcohol wipe. (Fig. C)

  2. Coat the mounting area with the primer pen and let dry.
  3. Proceed with the install while letting the primer cure for 5 minutes.(Fig. D)

    Fig. D

It is important to let the primer properly cure for 5 minutes before mounting the camera. Failure to do so will result in an incomplete bond with the adhesive pad which will lead to the camera falling off the windshield during operation.

Windshield temperature needs to be at least above 50ºF(10ºC) for proper curing and adhesion. It is recommended to apply a heat gun to the mounting area or turn on the vehicle's defrost prior to applying primer to ensure proper glass temperature.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The mounting of the DV6 camera in locations other than those specified in this document may lead to improper device functionality, including, but not limited to, the malfunctioning of ADAS and DMS features. An example of an improper mounting location is provided below.

Mounting the camera in this location may result in inaccurate calibration and potentially lead to missed or false alerts, as the driver may fall outside the detection range of the DMS sensors.

Step 3. Constant & Ignition Power Connection

Using a voltmeter, test the candidate power source for constant Voltage/Power.

Step 4. Running Power Harness

The harness required depends on the type of installation being performed. The following section details the steps required for each harness type. Find the type of harness being used in the section below and follow those steps. Power harnesses are purchased separately from the base DV6 package.

DV673 (Hard Wiring)

DV673, Picture

When making connections, the Poke & Wrap method, or Military Splice is the most efficient way to connect wires to factory wiring and is a Rosco standard for all installations. Be sure to insert (Separate) the wire before twisting it. This will avoid any intermittent power issues due to wires slipping off a connection. A zip tie is secured to the two wires after it is taped up to prevent a disconnection if the wires are pulled. Place your zip tie under the connection (blue arrow)

Wire Grounding:

An installation with a loose ground connection, or not screwed directly on a metal surface may cause an intermittent fault. Vehicles with a loose ground can lose connection if the vehicle’s driving on rough roads such as potholes or speed bumps.

A loose connection will cause the recorder to turn off and will not record. If grounding on a metal painted surface, be sure to scrape away any paint to ensure the best possible metal to metal connection.

Approved Methods of Connecting Power

Locate one of the following power sources in the vehicle:

Power Sources
Distribution fuse block – Found in most Type A school buses fusebox

Ignition cylinder with spade connection – Found in most Freightliner & Peterbilt trucks

Ring terminal battery adapters

Spare Aux wires – Most international trucks have constant & ignition wires available from the factory for added electronics. Butt connectors can be used to crimp your connection securely

Bullet Connector – Most Hino trucks have spare power wires with a factory bullet connector attached. Crimp the included male bullet connector to the DV6 power wire to make a secure connection

Alternative Hard Wire Connections:

  1. Find the ignition (IGN) and power (BATT) wires, install the provided TTAP connectors (Red: 22-18 AWG, Blue: 16-14 AWG, Yellow: 12 AWG) onto wires with a pair of pliers.
